“Theatre of The Oppressed” Workshops Series in Forum Theatre for Freshmen Fall 2010
TUESDAY, SEPT 7, 4 - 6PM
TUESDAY, OCT 12, 4 - 6PM
TUESDAY, NOV 9, 4 - 6PM
TUESDAY, DEC 7, 4 - 6PM

Originally created in the 1960s by the Brazilian, Augusto Boal, the Forum Theater workshops will present a scene showing a situation of oppression where the Protagonist does not know how to fight against, and fails.

The audience or “spect-actors” are invited to take part in the drama and replace the Protagonist. During the performance, audience members are free not only to comment on the action, but also to step up on stage and play roles of their choice. The other actors improvise the reactions of their characters facing each new intervention. All spect-actors have the same right to intervene and play their ideas. In doing so, they discover new ways of resolving the dilemmas that the play presents.

Starting with Diversity during freshmen orientation week, the workshop series will address issues that concern students such as:
  • School pressure
  • Sexuality
  • Relationships
  • Harassment
  • Sexual abuse
  • Eating disorders
