The Cartoneras projects aim to promote the celebration of language, culture, and creativity through a collaboration between top literary minds and cardboard collectors. In both Buenos Aires and Lima, the projects produced and published beautiful books with hand-painted cardboard covers that speak of the wonderful literature inside. With such works, the communities of Buenos Aires produced income for the poorest residents; in Lima, the works inspired teachers and their students, fostering a new and profound appreciation of literature and creativity in the community.
By responding to their national circumstances, both Cartonera programs bring their national fictions into reality by literally re-writing the historical situation of their nations and communities.
