The Cultural Agents Initiative at Harvard and the independent NGO increase the impact of creative and scholarly practices by supporting artists, educators, and community leaders who have developed socially productive artistic practices. We reflect on the role of art in building civil society and disseminate good practices through workshops and public forums. Our distinguished guests have featured Antanas Mockus, former mayor of Bogotá, Augusto Boal who developed interactive “Forum Theater,” and Maimunah Sharif, Executive Director of the United Nations Human Settlements Programe. Sequels at Harvard include an AIDS prevention program, anti-discrimination theater with the Equal Opportunities Commission, Symbolic Reparations with the Inter American Human Rights Commission, Futebol Viral to mitigate sexual violence, Pre-Texts, our pedagogy for peace www.pre-texts.org, and Renaissance Now, to generate Cases for Culture and a Certificate in Culture and Development for artists and policymakers https://renaissancenow-cai.org.
