“Arts, Activism, and Social Justice”, Amoeba Tour

Pre-Texts

High School teachers from many areas of the U.S., including Puerto Rico, spent a week at the Harvard Divinity School in a seminar on “Imagining a Better World: Arts, Activism, and Social Justice.” Sponsored by Harvard University’s Asia Center, the Center for African Studies, the Davis Center for Russian and Eurasian Studies, the Global Health Education & Learning Incubator, with support from Religion and Public Life at Harvard Divinity School and the Weatherhead Center for International Affairs.

Among the highlights was an “Amoeba Tour” at the Harvard Arts Museums, facilitated in three galleries, by conveners Anna Mudd and Cris Martin, and by Doris Sommer of Cultural Agents. Our text was “Nothing Personal” by James Baldwin. Each participant chose an artwork that spoke to them of a passage in the text, shared the connection with the rest of the group, and read the fragment aloud.
