“Colegios Verdes del Pacífico” is a growing network of educators and promoters of development dedicated to raising the resources and the expectations of youth in the Choco’ region of Colombia. Coordinated by Prof. Oscar Pardo and Ricardo Granados of the Universidad de los Andes, the network adopted Pre-Texts as a methodology for teacher training, understanding that local arts can activate international sources of learning. Making art from challenging texts, facilitated by Victoria Mena of the Universidad Tadeo Lozano and Nancy Mena of the Universidad de los Andes, again proved to engage reluctant readers, this time in Itsmina and Tadó where community leaders, teachers, and students participated to reframe education as a collective and creative process grounded in local arts and sparked by renewed curiosity.
