The Uolaba Kryol Theatre initiative, while rooted in careful planning, took an unexpected yet transformative turn with Pre-Texts at its core. Hosted at Stanford’s Afrodiasporic Museum of Uolaba, the two-day event united diverse community members, including youth, elders, leaders, and even the mayor, in a shared exploration of literature and law. Through the study of Dem Tell Me Seh by Quince Duncan and international treaties, participants engaged in complex discussions on territorial defense and cultural heritage. The initiative culminated in a powerful declaration and the creation of the Quince Duncan Afrodiasporic Libraries, a space dedicated to empowering the community with knowledge crucial for preserving their cultural identity. Pre-Texts proved to be an empowering tool for transforming literature and law into actionable knowledge, fostering intellectual and cultural preservation.
