Pre-Texts in Montevideo

Cultural Agents

This Tuesday, June 16, marked the closing session of “Pre-Texts: A Participatory Pedagogy for Civic Coexistence” at Montevideo’s Center for Permanent Training — organized by Lengua Ceibal, CFE, DGEIP, and the Faculty of Arts at Universidad de la República.

Six key actors from Uruguay’s education system stayed through all five sessions: four UTU inspectors, one teacher-training instructor, and one primary school director. From the second session onward, leadership shifted from trained facilitators to participants themselves.

Discussions returned consistently to freedom, community, and the tension between institutional norms and student autonomy. The protocol, participants noted, is a powerful tool for authentic listening — ready to extend into teacher collectives and classrooms alike. The course now moves toward accreditation through IPES.
