From Hong Kong to Guangxi: Pre-Texts at Work

On May 15, Grace Zhang Zinian, researcher at the Education University of Hong Kong and Guangxi Normal University, brought Pre-Texts into an undergraduate language-culture classroom — pairing Indigenous Australian Dreamtime narratives, Māori origin stories, and contemporary politics with Guangxi’s evolving ties to Australia and New Zealand.

Her early findings: students who once disengaged from dense historical texts now return to them repeatedly. Translanguaging between English and Chinese emerges spontaneously. The protocol, she observes, activates not only cognitive and civic capacities — but motivation itself. Read more!
